School Counseling & Mental Health
Epic Charter Schools is committed to supporting the holistic well-being of our students. We understand that academic success is closely tied to social, emotional, and mental health. That's why we've implemented comprehensive counseling and mental health services. Our goal is to ensure every student has access to the resources they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom. Read on to learn more about our school counseling and mental health programs.
School Counseling
Epic school counselors provide social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health support to students. They teach the skills needed for success, ensure self-awareness, and develop coping and social skills. The counseling team is trained in crisis intervention and response, including wellness check-ins, individual support, referrals to mental health partners, and reentry planning from inpatient facilities or extended mental health absences.
Mental Health
Epic prioritizes student mental health and well-being. Our school-employed mental health providers partner with community providers to ensure students in all 77 counties can access support at school and in their communities. Depending on location and family needs, providers offer teletherapy or in-community services.
Student Support Services
The Student Support Services Team connects families with local resources and services, including food, clothing, shelter, medical referrals, and support for homelessness and other education barriers. Submit a request to be contacted by the team.
Supporting Homeless Students at Epic Charter Schools
At Epic Charter School, we are committed to providing a free and appropriate public education to all students, including those experiencing homelessness. Our administration and teachers actively seek out students who are homeless or in need of additional services, regularly monitoring enrollment data, referrals, and input from staff to identify those who may require support.
Defining Homelessness
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 11434a(2)) defines "homeless children and youths" as individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. This includes:
-
Children and youths sharing housing due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or similar reasons.
-
Those living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, camping grounds, emergency or transitional shelters, or awaiting foster care placement.
-
Children with a primary nighttime residence that is a public or private place not designed for regular sleeping.
-
Those living in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, bus or train stations, or similar settings.
-
Migratory children living in circumstances described above.

Resilient & Healthy Schools
Our goal is to create a safe and supportive learning environment that fosters positive relationships, equips students with mental health and behavioral skills, and promotes physical well-being. Together, we build a resilient and empathetic community that empowers every student to thrive.
Health Services
Epic Charter Schools students can access a school nurse and an OU pediatric doctor. We currently operate two clinic locations, and both will be available free of charge to all Epic students.
