Students explore the structures of and interpret functions and other mathematical models. Students build upon previous knowledge of equations and inequalities to reason, solve, and represent equations and inequalities numerically and graphically.

EpicEd Algebra 1 takes students on a journey to develop their pre-algebra skills and zooms in on the anatomy of functions and the multiple representations of a linear function. Students will begin by building on their knowledge of operations to write, evaluate, and simplify polynomial expressions. To finish up the expansion of number and operations skills, students will explore factoring, radicals/roots, and begin digging deeper into solving equations. Students will define the types of equations and inequalities, strategies for solving, and interpret solutions in the original context (including equations with multiple or no solutions, absolute value equations and inequalities, compound inequalities, and systems of equations). Next, students will explore the relationship between a function and its representations including tables, equations, graphs, verbal descriptions, mapping diagrams, and multiple classifications of a function. Students will use previous knowledge of slope to master slope-intercept, standard, and point-slope form of an equation while translating between the forms. This mastery will allow students to jump into scatterplots, data, regression, and the interpretation of data using linear functions. Finally, students will explore probability as a tool for predicting outcomes and build multiple representations for data that allow students to create and model a real-world situation involving compound probability. The course will finish with a capstone project that gives students creative freedom to show their mastery of Algebra 1 topics in a variety of ways.

EpicEd Geometry is a unique experience in mathematics to gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between that mathematics and the world around them. Students will start with developing and understanding of the basics of geometry, this includes understanding the building definitions of points, lines, planes and the postulates that help them construct their foundation of Geometry. They will then explore how to use logic and reasoning to prove them and other angle and segment relationships true. Students will learn relationships that are created by parallel and perpendicular lines. Students will develop a clear understanding of triangles; including dissecting the anatomy of a triangle, triangle congruence and similarity. Once students have a grasp on the triangle we will move to relationships in other polygons. They will investigate quadrilaterals and all the diversity that comes with them. Students will revisit triangles while they investigate special right triangles and basic trigonometry. Students will define a circle and learn to find areas, lengths, and angles. Students will then expand their knowledge of area and perimeter to help them solve for surface area and volume of three dimensional shapes. To conclude their learning students will learn about transformations of the shapes that they have worked with throughout this class.
